Hi! I understand your point of view regarding the open letter to Tiger Woods. I believe I know where you're coming from on this. Thanks for your comment and concern.

As I'm sure you realize, the probability of Woods reading this letter in near zero. But I think it can also serve as good food for thought (and conviction) for others who might come across it and possibly even relate to Woods' self-inflicted circumstances, be they a sinner or a sinner saved by grace.

It actually touched me in a special way as a powerful reminder of GOD'S GRACE FOR A WRETCH LIKE ME who, admittedly, can relate to Woods' adulteries and subsequent conseqences. In a semi-direct sort of way, it was through my sin of adultery that, through others, God turned me and set me on the road to Calvary. (Long story.)

If Woods had remained silent regarding the accusations against him, then this letter would have been inappropriate. Innocent until proven guilty, as they say.

But this enormously huge public figure went public himself in his admission to his guilt. That being so, I don't really see this as a case of gossip. He has made his guilt public on his own.

I see this as more of an open letter to anybody who reads it because it presents the saving gospel of Jesus in it, regardless of what genre of sin.

And, since all things are possible with God, I pray Woods does get hold of this letter (or something similar) and, like me, have this grievious sin be the catalyst to bring him to his knees at Calvary.

Talk about a long putt!

Sorry, but I'm not sure I agree with this letter. My understanding is that an open letter is sent out once all other attempts of reasonable communication is ignored by the person you are trying to reach. Since I'm guessing that the author doesn't know Tiger Woods personally, I'm guessing this isn't feasable anyway. If this were happening to your next door neighbor and you knew him about as well as you do Tiger, I doubt you'd be writing this letter. In fact, you might pray for him or even try to share the gospel with him, but I doubt you would be poking into his private affairs. A person has to ask him or herself how much of the story they have heard and if it's a lot, then why? At what point are we entertaining the tabloid gossips to the point of sinning.

*Disclaimer* I realize I could be totally wrong and I'm willing to take a spanking over it. I'm just a imperfect man living in a falling vessel, so let me have it if you must.

Thanks for posting this Paul - I too have been burdened for Tiger and especially his wife and family. This is tragic in public view, but I am hopeful this will be the "rock bottom" that God allows to help Tiger to repent and see his need for the Saviour - Jesus Christ - I pray for forgiveness and reconcilliation for the Woods family and for a marriage that can only be restored by the power of God through the shed blood of Jesus.
