TRACTS IN OUR TRACKS

What a great day we had this Lord's Day!

A wonderful morning of heartfelt worship and fellowship with our church family followed by Kim, Grace (Kim's daughter) and I going for an afternoon hike through God's amazing creation in the pre-autumn coloured (green) forests of the Gatineau Hills across the provincial bridge in Quebec. Every year at this time we do this as often as we possibly can.

But that does not mean we leave our evangelism behind at home. No. Our desire and commitment to always be busy doing something in some way to reach the lost with the gospel of Jesus comes with us wherever we go.

In this case, we keep it simple. We always bring along a bag full of "The 10 Commandments" coins (with the 10 Commandments printed on one side of the coin and the gospel printed on the other side) and a pocket full of "Are You Ready" tracts and MDB's.

As we hike along the trails, we leave our coins and tracts in places where other hikers can easily spot them, pick them up and pocket them. In other words, we leave tracts in our tracks.

Coins can be easily inserted into cracks in rocks, left on a mossy stone on the pathway, placed in peeling tree bark, seated upon resting benches, etc.  The paper tracts can be left in indoor rest areas, plunked in an outhouse, placed in holes of rotting tree trunks and on windshields of parked cars in the parking lots.

And, of course, we take great pleasure in watching, as we did today, people walking by where we have planted a tract, bending down or reaching out to that which had caught their eye, reading what they found and putting it in their pocket to take home. This we have been witness to many, many times. Other times we leave tracts in our tracks and on our way back on the same trails we find that all our tracts that we left on the way are no longer where we had put them. They're gone!

So, heading out somewhere for a walk or a hike anywhere? Take along some tracts with you. It takes no time to strategically place a gospel tract where people can easily find them and you get to still enjoy the scenery, the beauty, the fresh air and the other wonders of God's creation with your friends or family, all the while spreading gospel seeds at the same time.

  1. Amen, Bro. Paul! It is "natural" for Christians to leave tracts everywhere they go!!

  2. I'm just disappointed that you didn't carve the whole book of John into one of those trees with your finger nail. Try harder next time. ;)
